Course Description:

Guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association are frequently updated based on results from ongoing scientific research. As stroke centers of excellence, implementation of the updated guidelines is expected across the continuum of care.
Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and disability in the United States. Implementation of evidence based guidelines has facilitated an improvement in outcomes across the nation as demonstrated by decreased disability and by stroke now being the fifth, rather than the fourth, leading cause of death. As South Carolina is located in the “stroke belt”, improved patient outcomes are dependent on knowledgeable health professionals who follow stroke best practices and guidelines.
