Course Description:
This course is designed for the physical therapist in mind, however is also appropriate
for occupational therapists or other medical professionals who are involved in the assessment
and treatment of those with balance and vestibular dysfunction.
This course will include an introduction to normal vestibular anatomy and function, as well as
a discussion about common vestibular and neurological disorders that may impair normal
vestibular function and balance.
The participants will be educated on specific examination techniques and outcome assessment
tools that are appropriate for this population. There will also be a discussion on suggested
treatment interventions designed for patients with positional vertigo, impaired balance, gait
abnormalities, and symptoms of dizziness. Current research and evidence on vestibular
therapy and interventions will also be discussed.
Finally, participants will be given the opportunity to practice various assessment and
intervention techniques to be able to incorporate new skills into their clinical practice following
the completion of the course.
