Course Description:
A comprehensive evidenced based course in managing geriatric patients in the home setting, in order to reduce falls, reverse frailty, and decrease emergent care and re-admissions to an inpatient facility. It emphasizes empowering patients to age in place, and emphasizes the importance of mobility to prevent falls and dependency.
It provides clinicians with the skills to do a comprehensive assessment of the systems of balance, and other factors contributing to fall risk. It provides clinicians with the skills to drill down to the causes of dizziness, and address postural control, dizziness, fear of falling using standardized tests, and develop an individualized plan of care that address dysfunction and the ability to achieve maximal independence in mobility and ADLs. Clinicians will learn thru lecture, demonstration and practice labs.
The course includes 2 binders- one binder contains the power point and the second binder is a tool book containing standardized tests, treatment tools, and home instructions for posture and core strengthening, functional strengthening, gaze stabilization exercises, sensory integration exercises, and postural control exercises.
