Course Description:

The purpose of this course it to provide physical therapy/rehabilitation staff with an increased understanding of Ankle-Foot-Orthoses (AFOs), including which types will best address gait deviations created by lower extremity musculoskeletal weakness and/or instability. The rehabilitation team will also gain the knowledge necessary to recommend the most appropriate AFO for their patient’s deficit. The course will also provide overview of gait kinematics and how an AFO functions to increase safety and energy efficiency during ambulation.
Our clinicians will provide education to satisfy the following course objectives
   Gain basic understanding of the various AFO types
   Have a working knowledge of gait cycle and lower limb progression
   Be able to address gait deviation and recommend orthotic intervention
   Receive insight on various materials used in AFO design
   Ability to distinguish when to recommend Off-the-Shelf or Custom Molded AFOs
   Prepare therapist with knowledge to request a specific AFO design to address patient dysfunction
   Gain experience through clinical case studies
   Assess expertise gained with a quiz upon completion of the course
