Course Description:
This is a comprehensive intermediate-level course in orthopaedic physical therapy. It encompasses areas of focus in the situation of evaluating and treating a patient who is self-referred (direct access). Examples will include disorders of the spine and extremities.
The emphasis will be on the integration of current scientific literature and clinical practice into developing clinical reasoning skills and proficiency in the examination and treatment of patients with an emphasis on medical screening, radiology, and pharmacology.
The course will include home study, monthly lectures by physical therapists and MDs, clinical observation with an emphasis on active learning. A written examination will be given at the completion of all four units in order to help participants assess their competence with the material and skills.
The four-module course provides 15 hours of continuing education over a 4 month period.
