Course Description:
"The average annual direct and indirect cost of cardiovascular disease and stroke in the United States was an estimated $351.2 billion in 2014 to 2015." The need for interprofessional collaboration to produce optimal patient outcomes is well established in the literature, including for those patients with cardiovascular disease. This course will educate therapists on the key components of cardiac rehab including appropriate diagnosis's for referral, individualized and personalized treatment plans, the core components within and researched benefits/outcomes of cardiac rehabilitation. With significant insurance changes to CMS coverage for rehabilitative services in multiple settings, the current insurance coverage for patients and how best to utilize our system resources will be presented. The specific roles of physical and occupational therapists in prevention of cardiovascular disease and supplementation to a formal cardiac rehabilitation program will be covered.
