Course Description:

Physical therapists are integral members of the healthcare team caring for those with concussions, and we look forward to the next opportunity to help facilitate the expertise and community leadership needed.

This is a two day collaborative learning workshop based on case analysis. A pre course reading list is provided to help guide individual learning goals, as well as an extensive current reference list for printed course materials. Case examples are provided, but also solicited in advance from participants to tailor workshop discussions in meaningful directions. All age groups and concussive event types are considered, with emphasis as needed by the participants' goals. Format of the workshop includes lecture, videos, discussion, group problem solving with presentations, and significant laboratory practice time. The major categories of potential dysfunction (Vestibular, Visual/oculomotor, Somatosensory including Cervical, Central Sensorimotor Processing, and Affective - cognitive, fatigue, sleep, behavior) are discussed with validated testing tools and prioritization for diagnoses and interventions. Creating a local multidisciplinary care network and legal considerations are also addressed.
