This presentation intends to expand the knowledge base of PT, OT, and SLP professionals in the area of nutrition and diet. Registered dietitians aim for interprofessional collaboration with practitioners in all areas and further research reinforces knowledge that healthy diet practices and healthful movement are directly linked to patient and client recovery and regain of mobility. Common health issues such as diabetes, chronic inflammation, and obesity can be mitigated through diet modification. This lecture will cover responsibilities of RDs, how to determine which patients to refer, current Nutrition Focused Physical Exams conducted by RDs, and diets that can decrease inflammation. Knowing what information to provide, when, and where to refer can be crucial. Therapists can build their knowledge base and appropriately implement nutrition goals into their current practice.
