Course Description:
This course will provide a review of the pathophysiology for COPD, CHF, and Diabetes. It will provide an overview of risk factors and assessment techniques to assist in the identification of exacerbations. Objective measures used per each disease will also be incorporated into the assessment section. Heart and lung sound assessment (stethoscopes are required) will be included. The course will include the common medications prescribed to treat COPD, CHF, and Diabetes as well as side effects and therapy implications. Evidence-based guidelines for prescribing a treatment program are essential for the prevention of rehospitalizations. Energy conservation techniques are included to enhance the patient’s quality of life and ease in completion of ADLs/IADLs and/or progression to becoming a community dweller.
