Course Description:
The topic of frailty is important to those in the healthcare community (physicians, therapists, nurses) because despite the recommendations that frailty is assessed yearly in older adults, this recommendation is rarely met. Thus, frailty is rarely screened in clinical practice and interventions are not adequately prescribed. For physicians, frailty is associated with therapeutic futility of medical and surgical interventions. For nurses, components of the frailty syndrome include weight loss lending it to nursing intervention. For therapists, exercise and physical activity interventions are the recommended first-line treatment for frailty and as such, therapists need to be well versed in optimal activity dosing for those with frailty.
