Course Description:
Individuals with diabetes are at increased risk for a number of serious and disabling complications. Among these are deep infection and diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). As many as 10-15% of individuals with diabetes will develop a foot wound, leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and risk for hospitalization and amputation. The management of foot wounds in patients with diabetes is a major therapeutic challenge. Prevention of wounds is the ultimate goal. However, early recognition and intervention can significantly improve patient outcomes when ulcers develop.
