Course Description:
Lumbar pain is the most frequently reported musculoskeletal problem and third most reported symptom of any kind in people over 75 years old. The onset of lumbar pain interferes with everyday life and continues to increase with age. The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) is an individually tailored method of assessment and treatment for lumbar pain. The long-term goal of the MDT is to teach clients how to manage their own pain using exercise and other strategies. MDT has been tested and demonstrated to be effective for reducing LBP among high-risk individuals. MDT uses standardized exercises to centralize and/or decrease pain and improve overall function. This seminar will explain the concepts of MDT and how to integrate this program as part of the PT plan of care.
