Course Description:
The use of standardized tests is an important element in physical therapy practice, as it allows physical therapists to: 1) Assess, measure, and compare performance in patients/clients in a consistent manner, 2) Establish an expected level of function and clinical outcome as part of a physical therapy plan of care, and 3) Measure and document progress towards the established goals. The American Physical Therapy Association, as well as other federal, state, and national associations, advocates for the use of standardized tests; however, the use of standardized tests as a regular component of physical therapy
practice is still lacking. This program is designed to provide physical therapists with a review of the patient history/chart review process, an overview of select standardized assessments that can be easily incorporated into the physical therapy assessment, and a discussion of how standardized assessment results can be used to develop an evidence-based clinical plan of care.
