Course Description:
Following an injury to the motor cortex, the central nervous
system (CNS) undergoes neurological reorganization where
undamaged areas compensate for neuron loss. This concept,
known as neuroplasticity, is the basis for physical and
occupational therapy interventions after damage or impairment
to the CNS. Through adequate training and challenge, therapists
can facilitate the return of motor function. This module describes
the process of neuroplasticity as it relates to the recovery of
gross motor function. Clinicians will gain an understanding of
specific interventions and dosing guidelines to maximize
functional outcomes for their patients.
