Course Description:
Low vision can have a significant impact on all areas of daily life. By recognizing the impact of normal aging and pathological conditions on an older adult's vision, physical and occupational therapy professionals can implement strategies to maximize function and safety for their clients. In this module, learners will gain an understanding of normal age-related vision loss, common conditions affecting older adults, including cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, and how those conditions show in the clinical presentation. Environmental modifications, visual aids, behavioral changes, and both technology-based and community-based resources to accommodate low vision are presented.
