Course Description:
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition that can
cause significant muscle weakness, osteoporosis, and
malnutrition. Secondary sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass) due to
CKD may be associated with limited mobility, increased fall risk,
and loss of functional independence. CKD affects 15% of the
adult population in the United States, therefore clinicians are
likely to see patients with CKD within their practice setting. An
understanding of the condition and impact on function is critical.
