Course Description:

Technological advances have greatly enhanced the lives of those individuals who have cognitive, physical and visual perceptual challenges. In this intermediate level course, therapists will explore and learn how the Apple iPad can be used as a therapeutic tool in the clinical setting with young and older persons of varying abilities. Apple accessibility features and resources for apps that target specific areas such as functional skills facilitation, visual processing/motor skill development, and development of learning skills, environmental management, and communication skill development are discussed. Peripheral supports for the iPad such as mounts, switch access, styluses, bluetooth speakers, and iPad cases are presented. Ten case studies are included throughout this course for clients of all ages, including both children and adults, in order to identify what built-in accessibility features, apps, and peripherals would assist clients with varied needs. This course is a valuable and comprehensive resource for all OT and PT clinicians. Course includes links to video presentations to further enhance and explain aspects of how the iPad can be utilized.
