Course Description:

Are you required to use a valid assessment tool during your evaluation by the facility or CMS? Is the use of an assessment tool complicating the evaluation? Have you had minimal to no training on the use of the tools available? Do you struggle to find the best measurement tool for the patient and/or setting? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then this course is for you. On a practical level, decisions about eligibility for reimbursable therapy services, intensity of services (frequency) and duration of covered rehabilitation services are frequently made based on function evaluation results using these measurement tools. Therapists will find a wide-range of valid and reliable tools available to document self-care limitations and chart progress with intervention. To assist the therapist with self-care tool selection, this course critiques and categorizes 22 tools in one of three ways. “A List” tools are those that are widely used, generally well-validated, and have applicability to a diverse patient population. “Setting-specific” tools are those developed and mandated by CMS for use in nursing homes, inpatient rehabilitation, and home health. “B List” tools are those that evaluate aspects of self-care but perhaps not as comprehensively as other tools, may only pertain to a specific population, and/or may have weaker clinimetrics. Measurement tools that have been recommended by AOTA and/or APTA are included in this course. With 18 self-care measures, four setting-specific tools, and a detailed introduction to self-care assessment, there is something for everyone in this comprehensive analysis of self-care measurement tools. Written exclusively for OTcourses.com/PTcourses.com, this is an excellent resource in today’s health care environment!
