Course Description:
Occupational and physical therapists are methodically trained during graduate school to use a holistic approach in the rehabilitation setting. Some therapists do this with great success; however, some therapists tend to shy away from cultural diversity for myriad reasons. This course will assist learners in coming face-to-face with cultural influences that are often viewed as barriers to treatment with the adult population. Using peer-reviewed articles, case study examples, and evaluation tools this course will teach occupational and physical therapists how to enhance their own sensitivities and knowledge to cultural diversity in the rehab setting. Additionally, this course will provide methods for therapists to use in their individual clinical settings to convert assumed cultural barriers into positive components that can greatly impact patients’ intervention.
