Course Description:
Dry needling is an intramuscular technique used by physical therapists for the purpose of treating pain and movement impairments. Dry needling is one of those areas that has dubious support in the literature despite the fact it has been a "traditional" physical therapy pain modality. It appears that the scope of practice for the use of this modality is narrowly focused on protocols that are not supported by evidence. This course will review the use of dry needling in the PT practice, the proposed mechanisms of dry needling, and some of the most common dry needling techniques. This course also includes a short video demonstrating dry needling.
