Course Description:
Osteoporosis contributes to millions of fractures each year due to occurrence of pathologic fractures and an increased risk of falls. Therapists play a key role in both prevention of fractures and recovery after fractures for these individuals. This course will define osteoporosis, identify risk factors, and review common medical treatments with a focus on the role of physical and occupational therapy professionals in managing individuals with osteoporosis and related impairments. Current evidence-based treatment interventions will be discussed while highlighting specific precautions to follow for this population.
