Course Description:
Individuals rehabilitating from acute or chronic cardiopulmonary conditions such as a myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have very different nutritional requirements than healthy older adults. Understanding the disease-specific nutrition requirements for each patient is critical for rehabilitation professionals to facilitate recovery. After taking this course, learners will understand the dietary needs of older adults with different cardiopulmonary diagnoses and the impact of diet on outcomes. Examples and case studies are used to demonstrate best practices to educate and empower patients to adopt dietary changes.
