Level 2: Pelvic Pain and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction: evaluation and manual treatment
Course Objectives:
This course is meant for the practitioner who has some experience working with
patients with pelvic floor dysfunction. We provide attendees with advanced
assessment and treatment protocols related to pelvic pain dysfunctions including
pubic, suprapubic, ilioinguinal, perineal, vaginal, anorectal and coccygeal pain. We
will also look at a variety of presentations of lower abdominal, hip and back pain
related to pelvic dysfunction. Dysfunctions including pathology of the urethra,
arcus tendineus, pericervical and ilioinguinal areas (which are often not addressed
in women’s health courses) will be discussed and unique treatment protocols will be
presented for resolving these difficult issues. Labs will include assessment of the
trunk, sacral pelvic and perineal areas as well as internal and external evaluation
and treatment techniques of both the vaginal and anorectal areas. Treatment
techniques will be eclectic and will include myofascial techniques (including
bimanual treatment techniques), gentle mobilization, specific pelvic floor
strengthening/control techniques and manual techniques for treatment of
dysfunctions. Attendees: should have some clinical experience working with the
pelvic floor. Clinical experience with manual therapy will be helpful but is not
required.
