Course Description:
Prolonged sitting with abnormal posture can pose a wide range of secondary complications such as pressure ulcers, respiratory compromise, and pain leading to decreased functional performance, mobility, and increased health care costs. Comprehensive assessment of clients positioned in wheelchairs can help to decrease these risks, improve occupational performance and mobility, and increase optimal outcomes. This course provides the rehabilitation therapy clinician with the skills needed to identify, evaluate and treat issues related to seating and positioning. In addition, common postural and positioning challenges in the geriatric population will be covered.
