Course Description:
Confused, insecure, unsure — many healthcare practitioners feel this way when they must make difficult decisions about their patients’ care. Ethical decision-making is sometimes a daunting reality, one that requires an understanding of how to apply moral and ethical principles in practical and serious situations. Basic models of ethical approaches exist, yet curricula for the allied health professions typically do not include them as part of a healthcare-based education. Healthcare practitioners therefore may not know about these ethical models and how they can be used to resolve bioethical dilemmas in a systematic and purposeful manner. This course covers the four principles of bioethics, as well as models that can serve as tools when justifying difficult decisions.
