Course Description:
Upper extremity hemiparesis or hemiplegia following a stroke leads to acute and chronic functional impairments associated with altered muscle tone, weakness, impaired sensation, and joint laxity. This course presents evidence-based guidelines for treatment of the hemiplegic shoulder. Learners will gain an understanding of how to evaluate the shoulder, recommendations for sling and support devices, interventions to manage pain and muscle tone, techniques to support functional recovery, and strategies to promote and engage a patient to self-manage their condition at discharge.
