Inappropriate patient sexual behavior (IPSB) is any verbal or physical act of explicit or perceived sexual nature which is carried out by a patient and directed at a clinician, staff, or other individual in any healthcare setting. IPSB encompasses a spectrum of behaviors, including staring, propositions, genital exposure, and sexual assault. Professionals may experience ethical distress when attempting to balance their legal and ethical commitment to the health of a misbehaving patient with their own right to workplace safety.
