Course Description:
Hospice and palliative care are areas of healthcare that have experienced significant growth in the past decade. Therapy services are often underutilized in hospice and palliative care despite the positive impact these services can have on pain, quality-of-life, and functional status. This course will describe the history of the hospice and palliative care movement, dispel myths related to hospice, and explain the role of therapy in hospice and palliative care. Case examples focusing on the evaluation and treatment are provided, allowing therapists to gain the knowledge to begin treating patients enrolled in hospice and palliative care in various environments. Those wishing to advance their knowledge of the role of PT and OT in these settings and possibly work in this field will benefit from this course.
