Course Description:
Falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in older adults. Evaluating and treating older adults with TBI can be challenging. Each patient has a unique clinical presentation with a range of neurological symptoms from the TBI that interact with age-related changes of the neuromuscular system. Together, these changes can have a significant effect on neurologic systems responsible for balance, leading to an increased falls risk. In this module, physical and occupational therapy professionals will learn evidence-based interventions to evaluate balance impairments in older adults post-TBI. Strategies for promoting long-term adherence and participation are discussed.
