Course Description:

Yoga is for every body and for everybody, even those with challenging medical diagnoses or
disabilities. This course, based on the book Adaptive Yoga by Ingrid Yang and Kyle Fahey,
provides an in-depth look at how to integrate yoga into your PT or OT practice using carefully
chosen activities that are appropriate for a variety of bodies and conditions. The course examines
the principles of using yoga in pediatric and adult rehabilitation, reviews muscle anatomy basics,
and provides detailed directions for how to use yoga interventions appropriately for individuals
with low back pain, osteoarthritis of the hip and knee, rheumatoid arthritis, lower limb
amputation, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy.
The book is beautifully illustrated with photos of individuals who have each of the conditions
listed, providing a fresh, realistic approach to understanding how to perform the yoga routines
presented. This up-to-date, evidence-based course provides PT and OT professionals with
detailed, clearly explained, customizable ideas for how to safely use yoga routines for
therapeutic intervention in order to maximize each patient’s functional independence and
healthcare-related quality of life.
