Course Description:
This course provides the therapist with a brief history of Medicare, a general description of various Medicare plans, rules, and requirements that apply to anyone delivering services to Medicare beneficiaries, and the rules and requirements that are specific to the practice of physical therapy and occupational therapy. Essential elements regarding the practice of physical and occupational therapy are addressed in ten different settings (acute care, long term care hospital, inpatient rehab, SNF, home health, hospice, private practice, CORF, hospital outpatient, and rural health clinics). Covered are the 2020 CMS changes, such as alternative payment models, the merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS), patient-directed groupings model (PDGM), and the Review Choice Demonstration (RCD) program. There are special sections on how to avoid Medicare fraud and abuse. Written in an easy-to-read format and updated to include the latest changes, this course will greatly assist any therapist working with Medicare patients.
