Course Description:
Digital dislocations are common hand injuries that can have significant functional consequences
if not properly addressed and rehabilitated. In this course, the anatomical structures involved in
various types of digital dislocations are examined. Potential conservative and operative
management indicators for digital dislocation are also discussed. Through this course, the
therapist will learn to integrate safe motion parameters for conservative and postoperative
management of digital dislocations as well as formulate strategies to advance treatment based on
patient precautions, tolerance, and performance. Appropriate orthoses to manage various types of
digital dislocations are discussed and demonstrated.
This course is recommended for occupational and physical therapists, in an outpatient or
inpatient setting, looking to improve their ability to maximize patient outcomes from acute
interventions to return to work and sports activities.
