Course Description:

Welcome to this Physical Therapy: Laws that Influence Practice course. All United States citizens have certain rights; in fact, we often take these rights for granted. People who receive healthcare services, in any setting, have rights and responsibilities as well. Care providers and care facilities need to understand and respect the rights and responsibilities of patients, their families, physicians, and other caregivers. They must respect the role patients have in making decisions about their own care and understand these rights, to abide by them and protect the patients they serve. People admitted to a hospital will receive the Patient’s Bill of Rights, while skilled care facilities or long-term care facilities distribute a similar document called, the Resident’s Bill of Rights. If the person is being cared for in their own home, the document is known as, the Clients’ Bill of Rights. This course will discuss the rights, related laws, and how care providers can ensure that rights are maintained.

Please note: This continuing education/professional development activity was planned physical therapists. Completing this course does not authorize you to add any skill discussed in the content to your practice if this function is not included in your current scope of practice.
