Course Description:

Physical therapists are movement specialist who observe, analyze movement & management movement system impairment syndromes. There is a need in the Physical Therapy profession to develop & refine diagnostic labels & classifications related to our movement expertise. Twodimensional slow motion video analysis is a technique & tactic that can facilitate this process. Readily available technology of smart phone video is under-utilized technology in the evaluation and management of movement disorders. This course provides answers to the questions will two-dimensional video slow motion technology be helpful in clinical decision making; can I trust the information the technology provides; can I integrate, manage, & analyze the new information; and can I implement the technology in my practice? This course addresses the benefits and barriers to the use of two dimensional video slow motion analysis. Techniques and tactics (recording, analyzing, storing, and retrieving video data) which can improve the validity and reliability of clinical motion analysis are presented. Attendees can expect this course will improve their skills at: facilitating a higher level of patient engagement; improving communication with client and referral sources ("picture is worth thousand words"); providing visual data when appealing to health insurance carriers on denials for coverage; and Improving the process of the therapist professional development continuing education by using patient video data from the therapist individual practice for reflective self-directed learning and obtaining second opinions from peers.
