Course Description:

This 3 hour course comprising lecture and hands on lab is designed to help clinicians be aware of the most common shoulder conditions encountered in rehabilitation practice. In the general population, shoulder pain is common. The pain may not always require surgery yet disabling with the relative inability to perform routine ADLs. Conservative treatment like medications and injections offer symptomatic relief with an obviously lacking functional carry over. Given the need for functional rehabilitation and physical therapy being a large contributor, the need for skilled expertise is obvious. This course aims to provide an overview of contemporary methodology in the physical therapy management of common conditions causing shoulder pain. It aims to provide an overview of the sources of pain and dysfunction in the shoulder by location, hands on palpation, assessment, interventional techniques and prophylactic methods to minimize the vulnerability of such occurrences, in the population. The concepts and principles of this course will enhance the participant’s knowledge and clinical skills through lecture and demonstrations. Participants will leave the course with tools that can be used immediately and more effectively. This course is designed for participants with a basic to intermediate level of experience.
