Course Description:

This intermediate level course examines the use of electrotherapy as an effective alternative for opioid
reduction. It includes an overview of the current burden and consequences of the upsurge in opioid
prescriptions, describes the role of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on analgesia,
emphasizes proper dosing parameters for TENS efficacy, and evaluates the use of TENS on opioid
reduction for acute and chronic pain. The course materials and clinical protocols presented are evidence based
and oriented to immediate clinical application as part of a skilled therapy plan for pain management.
