Course Description:
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) has a high prevalence in older adults but is rarely assessed in older adults with dementia in post-acute care settings. These individuals often may not be able to articulate their symptoms. Left untreated, a person with BPPV will be at higher risk for a fall and may limit participation in therapy and meaningful activities. Therapists working with patients with dementia should be able to identify signs and symptoms of BPPV, modify their assessment skills for this population, and develop appropriate interventions. This course uses a case-based approach to guide therapists through this process.
