Course Description:

This course is a 5.75 hour self-paced course designed for direct access physical therapists to enhance their evaluative skills in screening, differential diagnosis, assessment and management of the rotational athlete. This course will help integrate technique into practice when evaluating and treating the rotational athlete for the hip and shoulder complex. We will incorporate the strategies required for overhead athletes when analyzing the movement patterns of the shoulder and hip as it relates to dynamic rotational movements. This course is comprehensive from initial encounter to return to sport and competition based on evidence based and clinical practice guidelines. We will compare mechanics of the ball and socket joints as it relates to spine – including motions from a quarterback, baseball pitcher, golf swing, soccer kicks, tennis strokes, etc. This course will help participants understand the required biomechanics from a rotational athletes perspective based on closed kinetic chain movement patterning as well as assess where the specific impairments maybe stemming from. Attendees will also develop skills to assess and treat these impairments with outside the box evaluation skills and treatment approaches not normally used in the clinic. There will be an emphasis on hands-on, laboratory experiences to put into practice the didactic components of this course so that attendees can immediately put into practice newly learned skills.
