Course Description:
Compartment syndrome is a painful and potentially dangerous condition that can cause musculoskeletal and neurovascular tissue damage or death. Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is a complex, limb-threatening, and life-threatening condition that requires accurate diagnosis and immediate treatment. Chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) can result in sustained high levels of pressure within a fascial compartment that leads to deprivation of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to muscles, nerves, and blood vessels within a limb or affected area. Physical therapy and athletic training professionals play a vital role in the facilitation of prompt and effective treatment. This module outlines the causes, diagnostics, and best practices for the management of both ACS and CECS.
