Course Description:
Therapists face challenges communicating with people living with brain change which often limits skilled intervention and education provided to caregivers to manage challenging behaviors. This course will demonstrate the difference between normal and not normal aging regarding brain changes and the challenges therapists face when they are building a cognitive profile during an evaluation. This course will also address the process for determining unmet needs and negative interactions often displayed by people living with brain change by using Teepa Snow’s “Positive Physical Approach™ (PPA) and Hand Under Hand™ (HUH) technique. Finally, this course will identify the abilities people living with brain change still have left as the disease progresses to promote stronger skilled interventions. Participants will apply practical knowledge related to the impact of brain change on functional performance, demonstrate how to approach and communicate with a person living with brain change in various situations, and analyze the abilities of people living with brain to support them appropriately and prevent unwanted behaviors during care.
