Course Description:
This session will focus on understanding the impact of risks and trauma on young children, their families, and the providers working with them. We will explore definitions of trauma, risks, and buffers and look at resilience as a dynamic and adaptive rather than static process. We will address the impact of caregiver risks and trauma history on child development and their interactions with others. The role of positive early experiences and relationships in creating buffers to help individuals cope with adversity and stressful conditions will be examined. Triggers in children, families, and providers and how to manage them will be discussed along with stress reduction for everyone. Determining ways to impact change, maintain self-care, and create positive outcomes at all levels will be threaded through all discussions.
