Course Description:
This course covers the patient education, clinic and home manual therapy techniques and clinic and home therapeutic exercise progressions that are very important for individuals with hip OA and other pathologiess such as FAIS and labral tears in the years prior to any surgery. Most patients don't have hip arthroplasty for 3-6 years on average after diagnosis. In this time period, many patients become inactive due to the progression of pain and capsular restrictions. As physical therapists, its our job to help to keep them moving with as much function and quality of life until surgery is needed and recommended by the surgeon. In this way we can decrease the risk of co-morbidities related to inactivity such as heart disease, obesity, stroke, cancer, diabetes, depression and addiction.
