Course Description:
This intermediate level course is designed to provide therapeutic interventions for the infant with a tracheostomy. The focus will be on understanding the multiple domains of function affecting the infant with Tracheostomy. These domains include state control, self-regulation and stress impacting coping and bonding, respiratory system compensations, impact on musculoskeletal system development and movement patterns, and myofascial strain patterns limiting progression of developmental skills. Treatment focused instruction and labs will include soft tissue and rib cage mobilization strategies, co-regulation support, positioning strategies and facilitation of development and play. Logistics of safe and comfortable handling of Trach/Vent infants will be explored throughout the course. Labs for manual techniques and handling strategies with instructor feedback and guidance will be provided.
