Course Description:
Therapists are faced with challenges related to shorter lengths of stay and lower frequencies in senior rehabilitation. Traditional therapy models focus on ADL’s and low intensity interventions which can extend therapy duration or result in less-than-optimal outcomes. This course will highlight the benefits of a shift in focus to higher intensity resistive training as part of a therapy plan of care. We will explore the use of one rep max testing among other methods of assessing optimal resistance selection, exercise dosing, and the physiological benefits of higher-level intervention. This course will also discuss the literature supporting High Intensity training including High Intensity Interval training and its applications in the senior population. Participants will be challenged to rethink their current treatment approaches and restructure their practice through the addition of high intensity principles early in a rehab course. The physiological impact of high intensity training will be discussed and practical ways of immediately applying these concepts will be demonstrated.
Course Dates To Be Offered:
