Course Description:
A strong Infection Control Program is a critical element of quality care delivery. This seminar provides an overview related to infection prevention and control practices as well as procedures therapists working in long-term care should follow. Therapists will learn about the evolution of microbiology throughout history as well as gain an understanding of the impact infections have in a long-term care setting. The learner will be able to identify and understand the three elements necessary for infection transmission, the common modes of transmission and exposure precautions designed to protect the healthcare worker and the nursing home population from the various pathogens including, Bloodborne Pathogens and Multi-Drug Resistant Microorganisms. Additionally, this session will review the necessary components of an effective Infection Prevention and Control Program, department maintenance and cleaning procedures and strategies to ensure regulatory compliance.
