Course Description:
This course, delivered from both a surgical and rehabilitation perspective, will provide an overview of the management of the patient with a total ankle replacement. This course will describe common surgical techniques utilized and indications for a total ankle arthroplasty. A surgeon will discuss common complications associated with these procedures and precautions taken to avoid these. The second portion of the course will discuss rehabilitation after a total ankle arthroplasty including functional outcomes and optimal recovery. . Key aspects of the course will include gait patterns and expectations as well as higher level activities appropriate for this population.
