Course Description:
Gaining information through a comprehensive subjective history is crucial to successful outcomes and helping patients reach their goals. This can be extremely challenging without a therapeutic alliance between the clinician and patient. The difficulty of this skill is amplified when barriers exist in the patient-therapist relationship, such as challenges with therapy compliance, perceived low motivation, or even combative conversations. This course will build upon the beginning communication skills to navigate these tough conversations, using concepts from motivational interviewing and shared decision-making. The participant will utilize communication and interviewing skills, connecting with our patients to gather and utilize the key subjective information. These skills can influence aspects such as patient compliance with visits, adherence to recommendations and ultimately improve outcomes, directly helping our patients achieve their goals.
