Course Description:
Patients with advanced heart failure often present with severe shortness of breath, pulmonary and peripheral edema, and poor functional capacity, all of which can significantly impact the rehabilitation plan of care. This foundation course reviews the pathophysiology of advanced heart failure and medical interventions to manage typical symptoms. The information is integrated into common clinical presentations that therapy providers will encounter in home health and skilled nursing facility (SNF) settings. Key considerations and precautions for creating effective interventions for this population are discussed, including specific considerations for therapists in home health with limited access to an onsite care team.
