Course Description:
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive and terminal neuromuscular disease that causes degeneration of motor neurons. Treating patients with ALS requires understanding of their stage of disease and implementing appropriate interventions with the goal of improving quality of life and maintaining independence. This course provides physical therapy professionals with an overview of ALS, focusing on the expected progression of the disease and appropriate therapy interventions at each stage. Considerations for proper documentation and regulations to ensure patients get the appropriate amount and type of therapy to achieve their goals are presented.
