Course Description:
Proper wheelchair seating and positioning plays a key role in a patient’s comfort and ability to independently mobilize themselves and perform activities of daily living. It is imperative that physical and occupational therapists understand how to adequately evaluate the patient, including proper measure and fit of a standard wheelchair, to optimize alignment and maximize their functional potential. This course discusses how to evaluate a patient’s basic seating needs and use commonly available wheelchair accessories and modifications to correct sitting posture. Best practices for evaluating a patient with wheelchair positioning needs and measuring for optimal wheelchair fit are presented.
